Bad Idea

It’s nice to know some people have money to waste in this recession with things like this.

    Please! Please! Anything BUT this!!

  2. I feel bad for Jim Carrey.

  3. Carrey was only funny in two films and why in the hell would they want to get fucking Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro ? You can’t get actors anymore straight faced then those two. I fucking hate Hollywood, I would burn it if I could.

  4. This is going to be a spectacular, wonderful failure and I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Not me, Thad! My money’s better spent on Sony’s Three Stooges Collection volumes!

I’m just two shorts away from viewing the transition from Curly to Shemp, and I hope Sony takes this series to completion! Really loved the oddity of “Rhythm and Weep”!

Why, oh why, do studios insist on remaking great old things into new things than cannot possibly measure up – because the “old things” were so great in the first place?! That includes Looney Tunes!

Besides, even the “real Stooges” (such as they were at the time) suffered in feature-length format, so how much interest can this sustain? 20 mirthful minutes and out was their optimal format.

  6. What’s wrong with creatively casting 6’1″ 47 year old Jim Carrey to play the stout 5’5 30ish Curly Howard?

They should cast Will Ferrell as Shemp , Sarah Jessica Parker as Christine McIntyre & Billy Bob Thornton as Vernon Dent while they’re at it.

I look at the calendar and see that April 1 isn’t until next Wednesday and wonder whether or not the press release was sent to Variety a week early…

  8. The whole thing is preposterous. But since it seems to be going ahead, they might as well cast Danny DeVito as Joe Besser and John Goodman as Curly Joe. Also,Sean Penn would make a better Emil Sitka than a Larry.

  9. Oof!

This was already done with ‘The Little Rascals’ back in ’94. The film didn’t attract old ‘Rascals’ fans or create new ones. It’s pretty much forgotten today. Back in the 30’s studios who were not able to attract an audience faced bankruptcy. With the indulgent habits Hollywood has amassed beginning in the 70’s it will be difficult to pass off such lack luster stuff to folks who’s pocket books are shrinking – even as a direct to DVD situation. Those who love the Stooges will hate this film and those who don’t who the Stooges are (is there anyone?) won’t have any idea why Jim Carry is 40 pounds heavier and not acting like ‘Ace Ventura’. Del Toro fans will wonder where the mystical slime goblins are.

  10. They should have gone with Jack Black as Curly.

You know SCTV predicted this years ago. I don’t remember the exact wording, but it was just a throw away comment in a skit where someone mentions that a studio had just signed Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Howie Mandell to star in a remake of “A Night at at the Opera”.

The funny thing is, it STILL sounds better than this shit.

If this was just a week later, I’d say it was an April Fool’s joke, like the fake movie several years ago where Bruce Willis’ character needed a comeback and had a great opportunity by doing a biopic of Charles Nelson Reilly. That fake film actually sounded pretty good, though, unlike this atrocity.

    I’m REALLY disgusted.

  14. Could be worst, NOT.
This is one of the worst ideas ever. and I agree that jack black will be lots better than carrey. If they are going to butcher it, at least use good knifes…

Well, a recession in the US just means job losses, nearly everyone still buys the latest cars and Hollywood still screws things up.

  16. Lets hope they make a decent movie. Then the they generation will try to find the originals
