Not So Merrie

Some real history is up for grabs on eBay… Hugh Harman and Rudy Ising writing to Leon Schlesinger that his rights on the “Merrie Melodies” series title were about to expire. I follow these sorts of auctions on occasion, but am always outbid by someone (usually the same person, I think). I hope that the spendthrift who wins this will offer a scan for history’s sake, but I doubt it. Best to just wait a few years and wait for whoever it is to die and score it from the estate sale for a couple of quarters. That’s how you get the good shit!

    I see bidding has ended.

I’ve tried transcribing the page but there are a few words I can’t read so I don’t want to post it if it’s not accurate.

It’s interesting to note each cartoon was budgeted at $8,500 in paragraph 12 that is the subject of the letter.

Hmm. Spendthrift who outbids and doesn’t scan. I can’t possibly think of who you’re referring to. ;)

  3. And with inflation, today that would be $139,914.84!! Yow!
